Sergio Antonio Rueda, MA, PhD

Is the Director of Psychological Services Instituto de Medicina y Tecnologia Avanzada de la Conducta/ Hospital Poliplaza Medica in Juarez
Dr. Rueda currently holds the position of President of the Mexican Certification Board for Professionals on Addiction, Alcoholism & Tobacco A.C. He also serves as Director of the Integral Treatment Program on Addictions for the Institute of Medicine and Behavior Medicine at Hospital Poliplaza Medica since 1999. In 2000, he created the first Master of Arts program in human sexuality education in the northern Mexico and the first specialization program in addiction medicine.
Additionally, for many years Dr. Rueda has implemented numerous educational programmes in the mental health area for professionals and the lay public in collaboration with recognized, local, national and international academic institutions. He has been invited, as an expert, to participate in professional documentaries such as in the Grip of Evil, produced by Henninger Media for Discovery Channel on the topic of the medical and psychological aspects surrounding the actual case in which author William Blatty based The Exorcist.
Dr. Rueda holds certifications as a ¨Certified Sex Therapist¨ by The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists and a Certified Advanced Counselor on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse/ AADC, which is recognized by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/ Alcohol and Other Drugs Abuse, Inc.
He has created and has been an Advocate of Educational Programmes on Addictions, Sexuality Education and Special Education before Mexican educational and government authorities since 1998. His interviews and strong positions on the aforementioned topics have received extensive coverage by the local and national media, such as the interview on addictions and aggression by Sicarios (drug cartel assassins) published by the main national newspaper El Universal in 2009. Furthermore, that same year he created the Bi-national Center for Addictions Education and Prevention in the border cities of Juarez, Mexico, El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico. The programme was created in order to implement programmes to reduce the demand of drugs among young adolescents in the border cities between the United States and Mexico.
In October of 2012 Dr. Sergio Rueda, received the most prestigious academic award for the best Scientific Presentation in Sexual Medicine and Related Areas "Fernando Bianco Colmenares Award" by Flasses and the Latin American Federation of Sexual Societies award for his work on "Love as an Addictive Disorder: A medical-psychological approach".
Finally, his research on the topics on mental health have been presented in major conferences worldwide such the World Association of Sexuality (WAS), the American Association of Sex Therapists, Counselors and Educators/AASECT, the Latin America Federation of Sexual Societies in Education and Sexuality.
